Mission Statement

To enable all, of any age or background, to acquire the skills involved in music performance and an informed appreciation of music, to benefit them in their careers or lifestyle.

Raphael Strazz

Raphael began playing drums at age 13. He started out by playing along to his favourite rock music and anything that was on the radio. He gained performance experience early on, performing with his High School Jazz Band and at age 16 he started playing professional gigs with his Dad, Guy Strazz.

After successfully completing all AMEB grades on drum kit, Raphael began teaching from home and in 2008 became a drum tutor at Central Coast Conservatorium. Since then, he has also become a drum coach at Big Music Australia. Along with this, Raphael is the author of the CCC Drum Kit Curriculum and Co-writer of the internationally released production music track “Urban Desert” for Vitamin A/BMG.

Raphael is mainly self-taught, however he has had lessons from some of the best drummers and tutors in Australia including Milan Troha, Nic Cecire, Andy Evens and Gordon Rytmeister. He has performed and recorded with many bands including: Mahogany, The Blacklist, The Jefferson, The Collective, The Julian Kuo Quintet, The Central Coast Conservatorium Big Band and with many other musicians such as Steve Hunter, Gary Holgate, Andrew Oh, Guy Strazz, Lucas Strazz, Vlad Khusid, Virna Sanzone and Mark Da Costa.  Raph has performed at venues all across NSW including: The Sydney Opera House, The Sydney Town Hall, The Royal Botanical Gardens, Star Casino, Circular Quay Square, The Westin Hotel, The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, Lizotte’s, The Mean Fiddler Hotel, The InterContinental Hotel and many more.

Raphael teaches students of all ages and levels of experience, covering a wide range of styles and genres. His approach to teaching addresses technique and musicianship, whilst catering to each individual student's interest, whether it be learning to read music, improvising, playing along to your favourite songs or any other area of focus. Raphael tutors at Central Coast Conservatorium on Tuesdays and teaches drum kit at Gosford Public School, also on Tuesdays.  Raph is also involved in the Jazz Ensemble on Tuesday evenings with Ashley Turner, followed by Big Band where he mentors drumming students.
