Born in Riga, capital city of Latvia, Lilija has international experience as a solo singer. She was a leading soprano in the Latvian National Opera before arriving in Australia. Singing in 10 languages, she performed Opera and Music Theatre in Russia and has given guest performances in Oratorio and Concerts in Europe and Japan.
Arriving in Australia in 1991, Lilija has performed in concerts in most capital cities. She was a soloist with the ‘Sydney University Grads Choir’ (conductor Christopher Bowen) and recorded the “Christmas Oratorio” by Saint-Saens (soprano solo). Lilija has recorded 12 Chopin Songs as well as nine 30 minute concerts which have been broadcast on classical radio 2MBS-FM. She recorded the soprano solo for the TV series and CD of “Australians at War” (music by Roger Mason).
An Australian citizen, Lilija is an accredited vocal tutor with more than 25 years of experience. She specializes in teaching Classical and Music Theatre styles for young and developing voices, as well as advanced adult voice, and coaches in European languages for singers. She also prepares singers for AMEB, HSC exams, auditions and competitions and teaches Contemporary-Popular styles and techniques, preparing singers for CPM (AMEB).
Lilija is a freelance singer and since 2001 has been a voice tutor at Central Coast Conservatorium. From 2002-2010 she was Director of the Vocal Ensemble at Central Coast Conservatorium. From 2002 to the present she has been the Director of Central Coast Conservatorium Opera, and directed: 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' by G.C.Menotti, 'Brundibar' by H.Krasa, and 'Seeds of the Soul' by P. Rutherford. From 2003-2010 she was Head of Vocal Department at Central Coast Conservatorium and from 2005 she has been a voice tutor for Tertiary and Open/Young students at the Australian Institute of Music.
Lilija currently teaches at Central Coast Conservatorium on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. In 2013 she directed the opera Help! Help! The Globolinks! which will be staged at Laycock Street Theatre in November.
