Adrian Bell

Cello Tutor

Adrian Bell is a teacher and musician with thirty-five years experience. From an early age he studied cello with his father, Gladstone Bell, then with Osric Fyfe, at Sydney Conservatorium, and later with Ula Kantrovich at London Guildhall School of Music, and Raphael Wallfisch. On return to Australia, Adrian took up a position at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, and currently teaches cello at Central Coast Conservatorium. He has played with many ensembles and orchestras, performing most recently Elgar’s Cello Concerto as soloist with Central Coast Symphony Orchestra.

Adrian has produced compositions for cello, cello and piano, cello and guitar, and various chamber ensembles. He has written songs, which include settings of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience. Lately he collaborated with Phillip Rutherford on the opera Aurora, for which he wrote the libretto. Convinced that creative, imaginative art-forms provide authentic means through which to explore the essentially subjective and interior experience of being human, he has published poetry, short stories, has written for ABC TV’s Playschool, and is the author of the 2011 children’s novel Mother Moth.
